I spent this morning, as I do many mornings in the fall, preparing dinner for our house guests. I spend a lot of time over a stove and praying over the meals we share together, anticipating that the meal will nourish our house guests, provide a place to share stories and laughter, but also be pleasing to their taste. Tonight's meal is chili, with my favorite corn bread recipe...there are three secret ingredients. One of them is honey.
Today I am grateful for honey and the flavor it adds to our lives.
I am grateful for pleasant words that are like honeycomb - sweet to the soul and healing to the bones (Proverbs 16:24). Each day, the conversations we have with house guests, co-workers, family and friends can either be sweet, sour or bitter. When we sprinkle conversations with honey, everyone's day is a little sweeter.
I am grateful that the Word of God is sweeter than honey to my mouth (Psalm 119:103). That instead of the sour or bitter taste of condemnation; the righteousness, grace and truth of God brings a sweet flavor to life.
Have you experienced the sweetness of God's grace and truth? Have you been on the receiving end of hearing pleasant words? Thank God for these moments that have made your life sweeter and then pass it on. Extend a kind word to someone in need of it today, perhaps you can even share the entire jar of honey in the Gospel and change someone's life.
